Antakya is the central district of Hatay, which is one of the border cities of the Republic of Turkey, is located in the southernmost of our country (36\u00b0 10 north latitude \u2013 36\u00b0 06 East longitude). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hatay has bordered on Syria in the East; it has the Mediterranean Sea in the West and the South, Adana in the Northwest, Osmaniye in the North and Gaziantep in the Northeast. Hatay has a very large area. The Amik Plain, which has a fertile soil between the Nur Mountains (Amanos) extending from the north to the southwest and the plateaus between the Kel Mountain and the Syria plateau, forms a coastal plain extending in a strip in the west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main rivers of the city are the Orontes, Nestos and Afrin rivers. There are two dam for irrigation purposes (Tahtak\u00f6pr\u00fc and Yarseli).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Population living in Hatay (2018)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hatay is the thirteenth most populous city in Turkey. As of 2017, it has a population of 1,575,226. This population consists of 790.209 (50.16%) male and 785.017 (49.84%) female. In Hatay, there are 268 people per km\u00b2 and the population density is 268\/ km\u00b2. 2018 Hatay population is 1,589,403 according to the estimated data.
